The Boston Globe Magazine and The Commonwealth Institute Name Top 100 Women-Led Businesses in Massachusetts

Annual award highlights female business leaders who are making a significant impact on the state’s economy

Boston, MA – The Boston Globe Magazine, together with its partner The Commonwealth Institute (TCI), today announced the annual Top 100 Women-Led Businesses in Massachusetts, recognizing the honorees at a breakfast event at the Seaport Boston Hotel. These 100 organizations generated $69 billion in total revenue last year, demonstrating that women are key drivers of the state’s economy.

This year’s top ten honorees are Weber Shandwick, led by chairman Micho F. Spring; Atlas Travel & Technology Group, led by president and CEO Elaine Osgood; Brigham and Women’s Health Care, led by president Elizabeth G. Nabel, MD; Boston Children’s Hospital, led by president and CEO Sandra L. Fenwick; Bright Horizons Family Solutions, led by president and COO Mary Ann Tocio; Norwell Visiting Nurse Association, led by CEO Meg Doherty, RN, ANP, MBA; New England Baptist Hospital, led by president and CEO Trish Hannon, FACHE; The TJX Companies, led by CEO Carol Meyrowitz; Boston Medical Center Healthnet Plan, led by president Susan Coakley; and The Greater Boston Food Bank, led by president and CEO Catherine D’Amato.

The full list has been published in the Globe Magazine’s Women & Power at bostonglobe.com/magazine and will be in print on October 25.

“There is no doubt that female business leaders are key drivers in shaping our state’s economy in all sectors, ranging from health care and education to high-tech manufacturing, construction, and beyond,” said Globe Magazine editor Veronica Chao. “It’s a clear indicator of the diversity of achievements by women in this state, and sends an important message to all young female professionals about what is possible.”

Today’s breakfast featured welcoming remarks by Linda Pizzuti Henry, managing director at the Globe, who addressed the honorees, noting the importance of recognizing hard-working, successful, and inspirational women.

This is the 14th year that TCI – a Boston-based nonprofit that supports female business leaders – has created the list, and the third year that the Globe Magazine has partnered with the group. The Globe Magazine and TCI reviewed both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. In addition to revenue or operating budget, factors considered in the evaluation included the number of Massachusetts-based full-time employees, workplace and management diversity, and innovative projects.
