Boston Globe Announces Nominees and Fan Voting for The Globies Presented by Mercedes-Benz
Collection of the best athletes, teams, individuals, performances and moments comprise the nominees in this inaugural celebration of New England sports
Boston, MA – The Boston Globe has announced the nominees in “The Globies Presented by Mercedes-Benz,” a first-of-its-kind sports awards celebration that will honor the best of the New England sports scene on and off the field. The inaugural event will take place on October 6 at House of Blues Boston. Fans are invited to help their favorite nominees win by voting online at BostonGlobe.com/Globies.
The Boston Globe Sports Department selected nominees from the best athletes, teams, individuals, performances and moments of the past year*. Nominees were announced in 21 categories, including Best Moment, Unsung Hero, Top College Athlete, Mercedes-Benz Athlete of the Year and the MGM Springfield Best Comeback award. Fans can vote to determine Team MVPs presented by Budweiser, as well as voice their opinions in other categories online at The Globies website through August 15.
“This list of nominees encompasses the best of what New England has to offer in sports achievement at the professional and collegiate levels,” said Joe Sullivan, Sports Editor Boston Globe. “It was extremely difficult to narrow the field with all of the amazing individuals, dominant team performances and unforgettable moments over the last year. We encourage fans to make their voices heard and vote for their favorite nominees to help shape the first-ever Globies awards.”
The Boston Globe will also announce winners closer to The Globies in four additional categories including the Boston Pride Award, Most Inspirational Fan, Lifetime Achievement Award and Community Hero Award. Fans are encouraged to share their thoughts on who should be honored in these categories by using the #TheGlobies hashtag on Twitter.
The Globies will be a part of HUBweek, a week long gathering to celebrate the big ideas and bold solutions that emerge from the people, openness, and intellectual energy found in Greater Boston. Mercedes-Benz is the principal partner of The Globies, while MGM Springfield and Budweiser are presenting sponsors.
